SEA and BEACH
You are here in one of the most beautiful landscapes of Brittany. Here are the different places to go in order to have a relaxing afternoon :
> « Val André » beach is a beach of fine sand 2,5 km long, with a footpath for pedestrians, dominated by villas of seaside style of the beginning of last century.
> « Les Vallées » beach is wild, and is dominated by the 18 hole golf course. It is supervised in the season. The rocks are fine for « fishing by foot ».
> « La Ville Berneuf » beach stretches to Erquy. On this beach you can practice sand yacht, and it is not surprising to see paragliders overfling the cliff.
> Dahouët is one of our favorite places. Here there is a magnificent view point from « Notre dame de la garde », but the best way to make the most of this place, is to relax in one of the restaurant sofas and listen to the ringing of the halyard (drisse) contemplating the floating boat : Dahouet port dates from the 12th century.
Active commercial port, it was above all one of the first ports to accommodate armed boats for Great Fishing in Terre Neuvas and Iceland. Today it’s a marina, with the « Bassin des salines » which was created in 1989. Dahouët has retained its original character with its fishermen’s houses. The replica of « La Pauline » boat testifies to its rich past.
FOREST and LANDSCAP – NATURAL BEAUTY SPOT
> La Flora : Near “La maison de Denise”, about 200 meters below the guesthouse, you can find a little path in the forest at the river’s edge (au bord de la riviere) that is called La Flora. La Flora is a favorite place for walkers, trekkers, and fishermen. It takes you to the “Port de Dahouët” after a 3 Km walk. You can go through pastures (prairie), orchards (verger), fields (champ) of beekeeping and go near a little lake that offers a miniature sailing activity for children.
> La Pointe de Pléneuf : La pointe de Pléneuf Val André gives a panoramic view over Saint-Brieuc Bay and the small island of Verdelet (L’îlot du Verdelet).
> L’Îlot du Verdelet : L’Îlot du Verdelet has been a seabird nature reserve since 1973. It is one of the few nesting sites for the great cormorant in Côtes d'Armor. The ornithological reserve provides space for nesting birds, and also other species, which use the islet to feed, rest or pass the winter months.
To reach Verdelet safely, it is important to follow a number of rules :
• The islet is only accessible during high tides (coefficient in excess of 90.)
• You can leave for Verdelet two hours before low tide (following the falling tide).
• To avoid getting trapped on the islet, leave no later than 45 minutes after low tide.
• Verdelet is a protected ornithological reserve ; under no circumstances attempt to scale the rocks and disturb the tranquillity of the birds occupying the site.
> Les Dunes de la Ville Berneuf : One of the last unspoilt (préservée) dune areas in Saint Brieuc Bay. A few relics of old trees beaten by the wind and flattened to the ground from the power of the ocean. At least 175 plants species have been identified on the 10-hectare site.
